Cream Tea with Mr. Darcy

Pin It Now!

Photobucket

I know this hasn't really got anything much to do with food at all , apart from the cream tea bit, but my sister and I went to Chadsworth today. I just thought I'd just tell everyone, because we had a lovely day out, the place is really beautiful and if you're ever anywhere near I'd really recommend a visit.

Now you might wander what Mr Darcy has to do with it all....

Chadsworth became Mr Darcy's home, Pemberton Hall, in the latest film version of Jane Austen's Pride and Predjudice with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen.

Unfortunatly, Mr Darcy was nowhere to be seen. No dark and brooding figure appearing through the mist (well, now that would have been difficult as the sky was quite blue and the day sunny) or emerging from the pool, wet shirt clinging to his chest but here are some more pictures from the day anyways.

I love visiting Chatsworth. We're yet to go inside the house, but often walk around the glorious gardens.

Now I certainly wouldn't mind sharing a cream tea with Mr Darcy there ;)

Anonymous, thanks for the lovely comment and for pointing that out.

Jules, I'll have to make sure to go back a little later on in the year when everything is properly green.

It has been many years since I have been to Chatsworth. It is a beautiful house with magnificent gardens. The thing I remember the most about it, apart from the cream teas, is the door with the violin carved into it. The pictures are lovely as usual Sylvie.

If only to meet Mr. Darcy roaming the hills after visiting this tea shop. I love Pride & Prejudice and Jane Austin and even Thomas Hardy and Far from The Madding Crowd. I have read them all many times, but now see the movies as well:D

Ohhh, it looks a delicious day even if Mr Darcy didn't show up!!! I just love Jane Austin. I wonder if that is anywhere near where we will be staying when we go up there on our hols this summer?? You can't beat a cream tea!

I have just found your most wonderful Blog whoo hoo!!

Isn't Chatsworth a lovely place to visit? One of my favourite things in the house is the painted violin on a door. Now no Mr Darcy what a shame he can join me in a cream tea anytime ;)

I have never had clotted cream, but it looks really good slathered on that biscuit and covered with jam.

I love your photos! I wouldn't mind having tea with Mr. Darcy! or real tea in England would be awesome! :)

Jan, thanks.

Angela I tried to take a picture of the violin painted door, but it was too dark.

bellini valli, I've never read any Thomas Hardy yet.

Marie, it's in Derbyshire not too far from Nottingham. If you're going near where you went last year you could maybe stop on your way there or back.

Rosie, thanks for the lovely comment. At first glance I didn't even realise the violin was just painted, I had to go back and take a second look.

Kevin, it is good, you should definitely give it a go sometime. There is a way of making it yourself if you can't find it anywhere in the shops.

Ginny, thanks. Maybe you'll get a chance to visit some time.

Brings back memories!

I visited Chatsworth because of P&P3. If you make it to the sculpture gallery, the family does have the bust of MM's Darcy that was made for the movie (remember the book features a picture gallery) in it. Was fantastic to see and touch in real life!

I don't know where you are, but in the same area is Stanage Edge (via Hathersage) where Keira Knightly is standing taking in the vista on her trip to Derbyshire with the Gardiners.

The best!

aforkfullofspaghetti, I kind of know what you mean. Even though every girl is supposed to want to find her Mr Darcy, he's a bit of a chauvinist eally, isn't he. I wouldn't mind Mathew Mcfadyen though. ;)

Raquel, thank you.

lilyvegas, we saw the bust from the film. I was really surprised they had kept it. It had been moved into a corner though. I'm about 1 1/2 hours drive from there in West Yorkshire, but I'd like to go again in the summer, so I'll make sure I'll visit Stanage Edge.

I so love reading and watching all the brillant writings of Jane Austen. As an American i have dreamed of coming to Europe and seeing its beauty. Mostly, Chatsworth and bring to life P&P. Can someone tell me the place where Lizzy runs to after church where Mr. Darcy first proposes marriage.

It would be hard for me to chose between Mr. Darcy and Coronel Brandon...if only!!!!
